Hi, thanks for displaying this photo of my bus -- a photo only brought to my attention today (10 Feb 05) -- of former Central SMT Bristol LD6G Lodekka B87 of 1958. You will no doubt be happy to learn that Gerry Cushley is providing periodic updates on the progress of its restoration (see www.centralsmt.co.uk ). The bus will soon be safe to drive, at least around Lathalmond, and its bodywork restoration is also making leaps and bounds. My hope is to restore it to at least early 60's livery if not actual 1958 colours. We are looking for original Central seat frames and cushions. Until we find some, conventional seats and Yorkshire Traction cushions will have to do(!). Thanks again for posting the photo. Alex

Well some good news. Mckindless is meant to be ceasing operations on July 1st. People can now get out of their houses and enjoy safe and comfortable bus travel once more! Maybe not - coakly is going to buy them??? oh and coakly is meant to be owned by Stagecoach???

Coakley isn't owned by Stagecoach it's a guy called Neilson or something like that that owns Coakley.

I just read that on another website. Do you think Hutchison will take on any of the ex Mckindless routes - like maybe run to Hamilton again?
[#8522995] 2006-05-23 19:01:17 Left by (#0) Reply
Who knows the Lanarkshire runs inclusing the schools could be taken over by Coakley, Henderson Travel, Hutchisons or mayby even Whitelaws we'll just have to wait and see I think First will take the school runs in and the Rutherglen/Cambuslang area but again who knows I wonder what will happen to the 62,67,75 and the 80 routes.

Does anyone even know for certain that they are shutting up shop? what about the new depot they opened? there has not been any notices on the buses plus i can see coakly taking over the buses but not other companies such as Hutchison? Another thing where is Coakly getting the money fron?

I don't think Mckindless are to cease trading causes from the 21st of August there starting a few new routes one of them being a X21 from Lanark to East Kilbride.
[#8625215] 2007-03-24 21:00:35 Left by (#0) Reply
I really dont think mckindless is going to cease operations, saying that Vince, doesnt have the operators licence, supposed to be 1 of his daughters has it.
[#8625226] 2007-03-24 21:12:28 Left by (#0) Reply
Mr Mckindless wont be happy till he has crowded out any other operator from running thro lanarkshire, He runs all his services 2 or 3 minutes infront of all the other operators, forcing a few I know to quit. He has a nasty way of operating, was it shotts he did it with? First pulled their service off the road because of him, and now after 18:00 there are no services to shotts. Hutchisons face it day in day out, with other operators facing it too,in my opinion the authorties seem to turn a blind eye to his antics, but then again thats just my opinon.
[#8629107] 2007-04-04 23:34:55 Left by (#0) Reply
That's competition for you all companies do it not just McKindless even First do it it's a way of making money.

Hutchisons Coaches, have sold or 'merged' their operations with first glasgow, all the service work is moving to the control of first bus, along with all service drivers, and express services and drivers, not too sure if its the 1st of june or july, but it is 100% happening, Bloody sad day if you ask me.

What buses do you think will be used? Some Urbans? Geminis? I think it will be a good set up and the new routes look quite interesting. Also, if first do decided to keep the Optares etc - they won't look bad in the First livery

Firstly McKindless arn't giving up and secondly Hutchisons have been bought by First Glasgow and they will become First Glasgow (No2) on the 1st on July 2007. They got their vaults fitted last night.

Yet again, you talk shi*t. First have never owned this, nor did or do Hutchison's run the 203. This bus has since passed to Rossendale Transport so the chances of you travelling on it are slim. Even if you had, I think you'll find it is anything but a piece of junk, these are some of the best buses Hutchison have ever operated, not to be compared to with the example First have. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Just get on any of their buses and you will see. They buy buses that are useless and the condidtion that some of them is a disgrace. There is not a day goes by that you don't see one stuck at the side of the road. On the otherhand you have companies such as Hutchison who have buses which are spotless clean and are maintained well. Mckindless also have their little scheme's where they operate a route for round about six weeks to do damage to other companies so as they can buy more death traps.
[#8491362] 2006-02-26 21:06:55 Left by (#0) Reply
That's just the Glasgow operation that's like that you go into Hamilton and Motherwell areas like that and you see low floor MAN Darts,Plaxton Darts and Volvo ALX200'S which are low floor ok they could do better with the Glasgow area buses but i give them something I use to travel to school on the 67 and the buses were cleaner than First's 267 if Mckindless came into my area i'd use them for their cleaness and there cheaper.

All of Hutchison's buses are so well maintained. I'm surprised they have not dominated else where, they would win over First any day. Like I was on one of First's Geminis and it was filthy inside and out and seats had came off and the air conditioning was not working (as usual).

Early indications is that the white van was to blame somehow causing the bus driver to swerve. Know one was seriously injured fortunately, though several passengers on the bus commented that if it wasn't for the skill of the driver the full incident could have been a lot worse. The bus is in the garage in Overtown ATM.

Most of these buses were great to drive and had many more years of service in them still to give they were just taken off the road for the moans of the coffin dodgers and woman with those pain in the butt prams. i drove most of these buses in the last months of service like (A26VDS) and (B256BYS)and i was the last driver to drive (A27VDS) before the tow wagon took it away i was there that night and i had a tear in my eye,it was a very sad sight to see them go, and now am stuck driving those death trap darts ! if it was up to me the leyland tigers would still be in service and the awfal darts would paper clips by now ! !

Doubt it, probably only new additions to the fleet that will get that livery. This bus has damage to the lower body panels after 5 days in service, it met an artic on a bad bend along the diversionary route of the number and got to close to a ditch!

[#8539334] 2006-07-10 20:08:56 Left by (#0) Reply
It's only been 2 years since the 4 B7RLE's were delivered. All services now operate using low floor vehicles the oldest of which is a 1997 Optare Excel, the newst are 2004. The MAN/Vectas which are all only used as school buses are advertised for sale, maybe when the are sold the Excels will replace them on schools and something will replace the Excels on regular service.

Hi Jim, as far as I'm aware the Striders are to be moved somewhere else, which is a shame. They've operated from Motherwell depot the vast majority of their lives (except the Edinburgh ones) and only recently a lot were repainted/retrimmed/new LED screens. Will be sad to see them go

If First ever decide to clean the rust off that front wheel and get this beast roadworthy again instead of letting it rot (which it appears to have been doing for a while), would be nice to see it up and down to East Kilbride on the 201. Not as long as you'd think. It was still in Motherwell Depot on 3rd April 2005, an all-day ticket then having just gone up from 2.20 to 2.25. It left service a LONG time before that, and was up on lifts for at least 2 years with no engine, just waiting for Dunsmores to take it.

No they won't don't you know the terms of the deal First only take the srvice operations they don't take any coach or School work thats why they are not taking on Overtown Depot because Hutchisons are still runing their Scottish Pullman Services
[#8654071] 2007-06-19 18:48:31 Left by (#0) Reply
The X11 and X9 are going to First. If you look at the map that was published by First then you will see. I have read you're comments on another site and it is clear that you are an arrogant 'know all' when it is clear that you know jack shit. Hutchisons will continue to operate a coaches, however, it will be tours that will be operated and not express services. Reffering back to the map published, i do not think that First would publish a map which has routes that they do not plan to operate. Right enough i'm wrong as you seem to know all the ins and outs of the deal.
[#8654095] 2007-06-19 20:08:24 Left by Site Owner (#0) Reply
I am a Hutchison driver and just to clarify that First are taking all bus services including the 2 motorway express services. The deal includes 4 coaches for the express services and all service buses T reg and older. Hutchisons owner will continue to operate 3 school buses (for the time being) and 12 coaches on tour work/private hire
[#8654113] 2007-06-19 21:07:27 Left by (#0) Reply
Excuse me who do you think you are talking to. Well scene you have to act big over this. Their Scottsih Pullman buses are safe they will still be operated OK whether its by First or Hutchisons i don't know but i think your the arogant fool
[#8654125] 2007-06-19 21:36:11 Left by Scott (#0) Reply
All i have been sayin is what i have been hearing about the deal and i do not know everything about it. I forgot completley about the X9 and the X11 so don't start ok i admitted i am wrong. I had been told that along with the coach operations the Scottish Pullamn was safe and Hutchy would still run it. And i have had a look at the map as my dad drives for First at Blantyre and i saw it on the bus and also read all about it in the Drivers newsletter.
[#8654147] 2007-06-19 22:30:53 Left by (#0) Reply
Firstly i am not acting big and i do not know what you are meaning when you use that term?, i am simply showing you the facts that i know are TRUE. I was not debating that the Pullman services were not 'safe' as i knew for a fact that they were.
[#8654372] 2007-06-20 14:42:39 Left by Scott (#0) Reply
yeah well i was told that First were going to run the services using their their own buses and that Hutchison was keeping the Coaches to run tours and school contracts. I also know that what i say is fact the only thing which i have got wrong was about the Coaches and i have admitted that i was wrong!

No, they are related, and Irvine is just sort of space so storing in Overtown temporarily

realy why dosnt irvine take a leef out of hutchisons book and try to run some better quality buses
[#8698943] 2007-11-25 23:52:25 Left by SITE OWNER (#0) Reply
Irvines fleet is generally older and usually second hand but they are well looked after and the bodywork is in tip-top condition. You don't see many other operators running school buses, and coaches for that matter, in as fine a form as Irvine do. The photo of this bus the comments are about is a recent purchase and not yet been used
[#8699023] 2007-11-26 10:41:20 Left by (#0) Reply
erm... hutchison does, well soon to be did. Also why are some of irvines newer coaches are white? Does that mean that they don't own newer models?

not had it that long have they? shame. I was one of the very few who used to like these slow, uncomfy, noisy, rattly buses when they dominated the Burnley & Pendle local routes!
